What’s the training all about?

This is probably the question all poential cadets ask before committing themselves to joining the Army Cadet Force

Well its all about progressing you from Potential Cadet right through to Master Cadet and the ranks to go with each stage

So what does that mean, hopefully the following will explain what,how and why the training and progression is carried out.

Potential Recruit

You come along and express an interest in joining the ACF, and on the first evening you are encouraged to just have a look around, watch the activities taking place, and of course ask questions about what is going on and if the cadets enjoy what they are doing.

If you like what you see and express an interest in joining you will be expected to attend as a potential cadet for a few weeks to demonstrate your intertest prior to becoming a Recruit, the next stage.

The Recruit Stage

Initial training: Personal standards and responsibilities.
Country code and overnight camping.
The Cadet Oath Taken, Acceptance as Recruit and Pass out Parade

QUALIFICATIONS:- Awarded Regimental cap badge worn by your Detachment.

1 Star Training

Duties as a citizen and casualty code
Basic campcraft and fieldcraft.
Introduction to skill at arms.
One or two week camp.
Join The Duke of Edinburghs
Award
QUALIFICATIONS:- Awarded ACF 1 Star certificate

2 Star Training

Advanced fieldcraft/map and compass.
Essentials of First Aid. Expedition - 15 miles.
Training in use of public services.
Minor leader roles and public speaking.
Target rifle shooting. Two week camp.

QUALIFICATIONS:- Awarded ACF 2 Star certificate.

Promoted Lance Corporal.

Duke of Edinbugh’s Members Awarded
Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze award.
St John Ambulance First Aid certificate

3 Star Training

Field tactics/cross country navigation.
Expedition - 20 miles. Junior instructor's leadership course.
Leader roles/taking charge of others. Community Service Project.
Competitive target rifle shooting.
Two week camp or overseas visit.

QUALIFICATIONS:- Awarded ACF 3 Star certificate.

Promoted Corporal/Sergeant.

Duke of Edinbugh’s Members Awarded

Duke of Edinburgh's Silver award.
Leadership course certificate

4 Star Training

Advanced tactics.
Advanced First Aid.
Senior instructor's leadership course.
Plan and lead project.
Increasing responsibility in leadership roles.
Expedition - 30 miles.
Overseas expedition/exchange visit.
Two week camp.

QUALIFICATIONS:- Awarded ACF 4 Star certificate.

Promoted Staff Sergeant/Sergeant Major

Duke of Edinburgh's Gold award.
St John Ambulance Public First Aid Certificate.
advanced leadership course certificate.
Btec certificate in Public Service.
